UIUC Model Chemical Hygiene Plan
http://drs.uiuc.edu/css/chyp/
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) will implement policies and programs to keep exposures to hazardous chemicals in laboratories at
the lowest practical levels and below the Permissible Exposure Limits (29 CFR 1910.1000, Subpart Z) established by the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA). The control of laboratory exposures to hazardous chemicals will be accomplished by implementing a chemical hygiene plan
containing work practices, procedures, and policies that provide a safe and healthy environment.
UIUC Model Hazard Communication Plan/ Right To Know (RTK)
http://drs.uiuc.edu/css/hazcom/
The UIUC Division of Research Safety has developed the UIUC Hazard Communication Standard Compliance Program to assist campus unit compliance with
these regulations. One element of the compliance program is the development of the UIUC Model Hazard Communication Plan.
NOTE: Persons working with hazardous chemicals in laboratories shall utilize a Chemical Hygiene Plan rather than a Hazard Communication Plan. For more information about the Chemical Hygiene Plan, go to: http://drs.uiuc.edu/css/chyp/
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) Library
http://drs.uiuc.edu/css/msds/
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) are a primary source of information about the properties and hazards of chemicals used in the workplace. Government
regulations require that MSDSs be readily available to workers. DRS maintains a library of MSDSs to assist the campus community in complying with these
regulations.

General Lab Safety Training
http://www.drs.uiuc.edu/gls/training/
This initial training is required for all laboratory personnel (investigators, graduate students, post-docs, technicians, etc.) working in
research laboratories. The training provides general laboratory safety information and covers standard laboratory safety guidelines, laboratory
signs and labels, personal protective equipment, working with biological, chemical and radioactive materials, waste disposal, and emergency
preparedness. The session takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Conducting Research in a Safe and Environmentally Conscientious Manner
http://www.er.doe.gov/bes/ESH_policy.html
"The Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) is committed to conducting research in a manner that ensures protection of the workers, the public,
and the environment. Protecting the workers, the public, and the environment is a direct and individual responsibility of all BES managers and BES-supported
researchers and their staff. Funds provided by BES for research will be applied as necessary to ensure that all BES research activities are conducted safely
and in an environmentally conscientious manner. Only research conducted in this way will be supported."
